📍How to set up your new Windows Laptop

This guide will walk you through the setup process for your Windows laptop, step by step. A correct setup ensures that you have access to all necessary tools and software, can connect to the company network, and receive IT support when needed. Follow the instructions below to get your device ready for use.

1️⃣ Start setup

  • Start the laptop
    Turn on the device.
  • Choose language, region, and keyboard layout
    Select your preferred language, region, and keyboard layout.

  • Accept Microsoft terms
    Confirm the Microsoft terms to continue.

2️⃣ Name the device

  • Enter a device name
    If your company has naming guidelines, please follow those. If not, you are free to choose your own name.
  • We recommend using the following format:
    First initial + last name + -laptop
    Example: Mara Wenk → MWenk-Laptop

3️⃣ Connect to the internet

  • Have your Wi‑Fi password ready
    If you are onboarding on-site, you may be able to ask someone at your company for the Wi‑Fi details.
  • Connect to Wi‑Fi
    Select your Wi‑Fi network and enter your password.
    Click Connect.

  • Wait for updates (if prompted)
    Windows may download updates. Please wait.

4️⃣ Choose account type

  • Select your account type
    When asked how you want to set up the device, choose Work or school account.

5️⃣ Sign in to Microsoft 365

  • Find your Microsoft 365 credentials
    deeploi has sent you an email to both your work and personal email address. Which one you need depends on whether your company primarily uses Microsoft or Google.

    • If your company primarily uses Microsoft, sign in with the credentials from your deeploi welcome email. 
    • If your company primarily uses Google, sign in with the credentials from the email with the subject "Welcome to Microsoft 365 – Your Account is Ready!"

    💡 Not sure which account your company uses?
    Open your deeploi welcome email and hover your mouse over the login button (without clicking). You will see either a Microsoft or Google web address. Still unsure? Ask your IT owner before continuing.

  • Didn't receive the email?
    Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there either, contact your IT administrator and ask them for your Microsoft 365 credentials.

  • Complete two-factor authentication (if prompted)
    For example with Microsoft Authenticator or SMS.

6️⃣ Set up Windows Hello

  • Create a PIN
    Click Create a PIN and choose a PIN.
    Make sure to remember it. You will need it every time you log in.
  • Optional: biometric sign-in
    If asked to set up fingerprint or facial recognition, you can skip this for now by clicking I'll do this later.

7️⃣ Review privacy settings

  • Adjust and accept
    Review the privacy settings and adjust them according to your preferences.
    Then click Accept.

8️⃣ Windows completes setup

  • Wait for setup to finish (2–5 minutes)
    Do not turn off the laptop.
    Do not close the lid.

9️⃣ Device registration 

  • Register your device
